When blogging, it is important to link to other bloggers in your niche and genre. Also, link to other bloggers who are likely to visit you and link back. Linking to big name blogs probably won’t do much for you since they won’t have the time to hang out at your site and link to you. When someone links to you, it is polite to leave a “thank you” comment at the post.
Commenting is another way to be friendly and get your name out there. When commenting, you need to leave more than “yeah, I agree” or “that’s cool”. Leave a useful comment that will stand out and give the person reason to visit your site. Most blogs have a place for you to leave your link with your name. It is not necessary to leave an additional link in your comment. Many bloggers will see this as spammy and will delete your comment or their spam filter will filter it.
The point of linking and commenting is to build friends and readership in your niche. When I first started blogging, I was told the general rule was to comment at ten blogs each week. This was a great way to meet to new people and share ideas. Honestly, I have gotten out of that habit and need to start back again. I could always use some new blogging friends. How about you?

A few weeks ago (ok, maybe a month ago, lol) I promised some blogging tips. This whole idea of me giving tips is still weird to me. I’ve enjoyed blogging for the past 1 1/2 years, but there is still a lot I don’t know. Oh well, I’ll be sharing some things that I know are successful.
The first tip is to leave comments. Visit other blogs, find interesting conversations, and leave comments. Don’t leave spam type comments or comments that make it seem like you’re only there to promote yourself. Add something that will contribute to the conversation.
Leaving comments helps to get your name out there and people will click on your name to see your site. Make sure in the comment box where it asks for your website/url that you actually put your site. This will be their link back to you.

This may be hard to believe, but I’ve had several people ask me how to build a successful blog. lol Sometimes this seems funny to me because I don’t consider myself to be a famous blogger by any means. I guess truth be told, Thrifty Mommy is becoming a well known and respected site.
Still, sometimes I feel (and know that I am) very ignorant to all of the technology and lingo that I hear. Many times I just ignore it and go with the flow and what has worked for me. So, although I sometimes feel totally overwhelmed in this techno savvy world, I will be giving some blogging tips from time to time. If you’re interested, then feel free to read them. Otherwise, just scroll past them. lol
