Naming Meme

I’m supposed to tell you my kids’ names and where we came up with them. Okie dokie, here goes:
Cady - Named after Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a hero of mine from the days when I was a feminist. I tend not to agree with about 1/2 of what she thought, but I have to give her props for her fearlessness. Side note, her middle name, Elizabeth, comes from Elizabeth I, Virgin Queen of England. (I’m a history buff LOL) My Cady is pretty fearless and thinks she’s a great ruler ;), so this name works out well for her.
Grace - Named for forgiveness, which ironically this child freely gives (and even more freely needs heh heh). Middle name is the only name that sounded good paired with Grace (and still allowed Grace to be the first name), Emily.
Jacob - Named for Jacob in the bible. He later is renamed Israel, but that seemed a little over the top, when you look at the plain-jane names we chose for the rest of the kids. Samuel (his middle name) is from one of my very favorite stories in the bible (look it up). Side note, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles are my fav books. In about 2 weeks you can really get a solid foundation of Hebrew history (kingships, anyway) just by reading those books.
Ruby - I had an aunt that used to bring my daddy oranges from Florida, and they called her Orange Ruby (her name was Ruby, duh). But we actually came up with the name because 1-it was old (one of our must-haves, in naming) and 2-I hadn’t heard it used lately. Grace and Jacob were both the number one names the year they were born and it always bugs me when that happens. I was determined for that not to happen with Ruby. Her middle name was to be Kate, but we chose Jane when our Grandmother died the month before Ruby was born. Ironically, Jane hated the name Ruby, and she admonished us in our choice. I think it would tickle her to know that we placed those names together despite her feelings on the name (or should I say in spite of ;)). My goodness I miss her and her spunky self.
So there you go. Thanks for tagging me Karen!

Thanks Robyn. I forgot you had this site.
